H Á V A R

An award-winning decades-long playwright, journalist, and naturalist, Hávar (Hoe-varr) is a patient and organised man with a sense of humour and an eye for a great story. He has hiked, driven, and ridden both horses and motorcycles all over Iceland, and will happily help you do any of that and much more.
Hávar has worked as a guide for 26 years, 12 of which full-time, giving him an ocean of experience with all sorts of topics, ranging from history, folklore, geography, and one of his favourite subjects, birding.
He has written a total of 8 stage plays and numerous radio works, many of which have been produced in Scandinavia, Germany, and France. Hávar’s experiences as director and playwright with the Icelandic National Theatre have honed his abilities as an expert narrator who can recognise a great story before it’s even born.
In 2005, his play Angel won Play of the Year at the Icelandic Theatre Awards, and in 2016, The Hideout won Radio Play of the Year. Additionally, he has also worked as a journalist for ober 30 years, covering arts and culture both in Iceland and abroad.
Hávar is primarily available as a private driver-guide with his 2024 model 8 passenger 4x4 Mercedes Benz Sprinter, but can also take you through his favourite of Iceland’s National and folk museums along the way.
